The name of course comes from the sailor suit the boy mascot wears on the box of Cracker Jack popcorn. Which has made me wonder: what was the basis, in the old days, of having little boys wear sailor outfits?

was a fasion thing from victorian to edwardian times, some of it carried on into the30's.
its akin to dressing your boys up in female clothes until they "grow up" e.t.c, just a trend. sall
