Italeri's newer 1/72 scale armor kits come with a wargaming set of rules and a guidebook. You can buy one of their cheaper kits, take a look at their rules, and adapt them to your needs.

You thinking a mini game with an open table where you need to use a rule to measure distance for movement, etc or a board game like Axis and Allies?

Actually I just remember Axis and Allies has mini version as well. Never played it. You may want to check. www.boardgamegeek.com for ideas.

All I can ask is you try to make it a little less rule heavy than Warhammer. With all the editions, etc. sometimes the rules take over the game. Good luck. Infantry would be cool but heavy artillery or MLRS maybe extremely fun IMHO. You would probably need to assume that the middle of the table was a cut and a certain distance laid there. It would be a shoot and move type of thing and you would need a tape measure instead of a ruler.

Christian,
You might want to look if you can find EARLY heroclix rules. When the game came out it was pretty easy again overtime things got out of hand. My rule is if there is a discrepency in the rules or if it is not covered, the rule is to go with what makes sense or what makes the game most fun. Nothing sux more than a rule lawyer in a game. I experienced one of those a few months ago...he made a 1.5 or 2.0 hour game into a 4.0 game. Bad times.
