I'm trying to locate a supplier in the UK (preferably in the south) of a cabinet or display case that will accomodate 1/48 scale bombers Lancasters etc without success. Can anyone make a recomendation?

Keep an eye out for shops/chemists etc going out of business in your area. If they have a "closing down" sale and a display case that would suit your needs just make them an offer.....

Hi Michael, I would contact a company that manufactures store display cabinets like jewelers cases , etc. that you see in department stores. I live in the States and bought an old jewelry display case to display my armor collection. Often these same manufacturers also do the store renovations and then remove all of the old display cases and then put them up for sale at a fraction of the original cost. The one I bought had a glass front, top, and shelves and would have been about 1800.00 Dollars brand new but I got mine for 225.00 and then sold it 3 years later for 275.00. You may also want to contact a cabinet maker or check IKEA if you have them in your area, I know they make some tall display cases that are lit from the top with multiple glass shelves. Good luck.

Hello Michael
There is a company that comes to a lot of the show's that will make display caes/boxes to any size that you want within reason. they make them with or without a wooden edging if I remember.
I know they go to the Romford show & I think I remember seeing them at the Telford show.
think it might be

Thanks everyone. I've contacted a local cabinet maker as the commercial off the shelf choices are very limited in size. If things work out I'll post the details I'm sure he would like the work.javascript:PasteSmiley(':

Hi

If you are on a bit of a budget something from Ikea may be sufficient.

I've got that very showcase Alan. It works well up to a point, but the shelves are really too far apart - you need to get someone who's good at welding to put some extra bars inbetween, then buy an extra set of shelves...
Only problem with that for me is that one of mine has the DML 251/6 on it. The radio antenna is about 2ft long!

Acrylic Display Cases

They make custom sized cases too.

Do you have any Power tools?

Table saw, Planner, router Miter saw,Dado blade and a drilling jig for the shelf pins.

Is all you need.

I am going to make one minus the glass sides and use wood there and back no mirror,do not need the extra price of glass for that.

And I am thinking of wood shelves and just two front doors with glass.

Sorry to run away with that but heck once I started typing it was all over.

Easy to make the frame and if you do not have a way to make a door can always get it done at a shop.

Good luck the reason why I said it, as here a decent sized Curio Cabinet starts at $800.00-$1600.00 don't think so.

Something like this.

But wider and deeper.

Thanks again guys for all your inputs. I'll let you know how I get on with the cabinet maker. Incidentaly the usual downside with IKEA etc is that their cabinets are not dust proof, and the others simply aren't big enough. I'll keep you all posted.
