Hi Guys,
You all probably thought you were fairly safe from the world that is Star Trek.
But no.
Saw the movie yesterday evening and being a traditonalist I went to see trek with some treperdation.
It was good, great fantastic...IMO JJ Abrams has done the franschise proud.
Zachary Qunito and Karl Urban stand out it was if they were chanelling Leonard Nimoy (now looking really old) and De Forrest Kelley.
I always had concerns over Simon Pegg playing Scotty and they were borne out I felt it did'nt work.
Never mind
Its a solid 8/10.
Can't wait for the next one.
Live long and prosper.

I grew up watching Star Trek and I am really wanting to see this reboot.
English, Blond haired Simon Pegg as Scotty was a questionable pick.
Paul McGillion of Stargate Atlantis would have been a better pick:
Not only does he look like the dear departed Mr. Doohan, he's also Canadian like Jimmy D. and can speak with a perfect Scottish lilt.
I'll give the movie a chance though before passing final judgement.
Cheers

I am going to really try to see it Sunday afternoon. I gave up on seeing movies on opening day a long time ago.
So far all the reviews say it is really good.

The reviews so far are quite encouraging. I'll probably try to see the movie on Monday and avoid the long lines a sell outs. I tried to convince my wife to go on Mother's day but it didn't fly to well

Ironically I thought I saw Paul McGillion in the movie and checked IMDB. Yup he had a bit walk on role as a barracks officer (about 30 min into the movie).
Just saw it today and it was pretty cool. There was a moment where I scratched my head at the plot and wondered why planetary defenses were so lame... but otherwise it was a fun romp.
Cheers,

Saw ST today - awesome!
Looking at early (1960's) pictures of Leonard Nimoy in the Spock role, I reckon Zachary Quinto was a great match - (possible spoiler alert) just not sure about the love interest, was that there on later episodes/movies?
So many clichés and one-liners I found it hilarious - as did the friend who accompanied me and grew up watching ST on TV. I must say, of the non-main characters, I'm not sure who I liked more, Scott or McCoy, because I enjoyed their characters immensely.

McCoy was spot on and great. Spock's old love interest was Nurse Chapel, Sulu had a thing for Uhura in a couple of the old TV episodes, but must have married someone else since his daughter was helmsman for the Enterprise B in Generations.

Sooo...
If Spock can return from the future and alter history, could he not prevent Star Trek IV from having been made?
The new Star Trek did rock by the way. Even my wife liked it.
