G'day,

I'd just like to share a few photos from my little trip to Shark Bay last week. The place is a relatively short trip north of Perth, only 900km, 9 hours. Arriving in the main town Denham, we set up camp right on the beach.

Some of the beautiful coast.

A four hour 4WD expedition took us to the most western tip of Australia, Steep Point.

The rugged cliffs here are constantly battered by gigantic swells. You can feel the force of the water through the rock each time a wave pounds against the cliffs.

Yet, God has made animals able to survive in such conditions. A metre long sea turtle risks the swell to search out food along the base of the cliffs.

More of the amazing coastline along Steep Point.

An eagle perfectly camouflaged in its surroundings. But beauty can be temporary. A moment after this picture was taken, the bird let out a massive sloppy poo!

A nice 40cm Flathead on the end of my rod. Yum.

As the name implies, a certain type of creature exists in abundance in the waters around Denham... sharks. Fishing off a rocky peninsular I got more than I bargained for... a 1.2m juvenile Tiger shark.

The young whipper snapper has a go at us as we attempt to lift him up for the camera. He may look small but he is heavy, full a muscle and has amazing power in that tail. Not to mention the teeth! We put the little guy back.

The same day as some of us were in the water spear-fishing we came across his parents. The man in the orange top came across a 2m Tiger shark and high-tailed it to shore. Another mate was in the water as I escorted him in my Kayak... things got a bit hairy when another Tiger came in close for a look. They weren't looking for trouble though... there are plenty of fish in Shark bay for both humans and sharks. What an amazing creature.

Hopefully this didn't bore you. I hope you enjoyed this sneak peak of the amazing country I feel very lucky to live in.

Hi Chas

Nice vacation spot and great photos, thanks for sharing. I'm wondering though, where are all the famous Australian Beach Babes we've heard so much about..?

cheers;

Bob

And on the opposite site of the country we had our first snowfall in the alpine regions 20cm of powder, guess the ski season will start early

Chas, any good surf spots there? If so, what kind of breaks?

Looks good.
Nice Clean Blue water have not seen that since Florida.

Well keep it up and watch those sharks.

Even small ones pack a wallop.

Cheers

Milvehfan, you're welcome.

Bob, you can't find them that far north... ! We did take some with us though.

Rudi, I'm not aware of any surf spots... I don't think it is a big activity in Shark Bay. Windsurfing, kayaking, snorkelling and fishing are the main things to do.

Chas

Great photos of what looks to be a superb area. It is certainly on my list of places to get to as I have been to the Northern most (Cape York), Eastern most (Byron Bay) and Southern most ( Wilsons Promentary) points of mainland Australia.

I see the Tigers over there are as active as they on this side too. Just remember to not spear a fish under their noses and you will be pretty right.
