I recently finished the book, recomended for sure..a tad dry at times but full of facts and references. Since the date is 2010 count me in, with a ship and maybe a wingie thingie

Great James and welcome aboard. Looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with since there are just too many choices. I'm hoping for a little extra modeling cash by then, I would love to do a Grumman TBF-1C Avenger.
Your number 9 now, one more to go.
Thanks
Bob

Come on troops, all these possibilities and from all these different groups on KitMaker, we only need one more to be able to submit.
Thanks for looking and thinking about it but we need one more to commit!

I'd like to add my name to the list as well. My chosen topic, not included in the original list, will a 1/350th scale Gridley Class destroyer, USS MCCALL, DD-400. While not present at the start of the operation, the USS MCCALL joined TF 58 at Majuro 4 June. Two days later the force sortied for operations in the Marianas Islands. First, they directly supported the landings on Guam, Rota, and Saipan, and then raided Iwo and Chichi Jima to prevent enemy reinforcements from reaching the Marianas through those islands. Now, to get my order in with Yankee Modelworks!

Howdy Y'all
As promised, here is a list from Barrett Tillman's "Clash of the Carriers..." for the Japanese planes used during the Mariana's Turkey Shoot. I'm adding the Allied code name or common English name in paranthesis.
Aichi D3A2 carrier dive bomber (Val)
Aichi E12A scout-observation floatplane (Jake)
Mitsubishi A6M2/5 (Zero)
Mitsubishi G4M2 land-based bomber (Betty)
Nakajima B5N2 carrier torpedo plane (Kate)
Nakajima B6Ni carrier torpedo plane (Jill)
Yokosuka D4Y1 carrier dive bomber (Judy)
Yokosuka P1Y1 land-based bomber (Frances)

Hope this list helps and I look forward to the build.-Don "Lakota"

Hello Tom and Bruce welcome aboard, I'll add your names to the current list. It isn't an approved campaign as yet and we may all have to signup when they list in the campaign section.

Don, many thanks again and I'll add these to the Japanese planes listing.

Banners have been added.
Both designs were created by Andrzej Snigorski - endrju007
He has developed each so that they may reflect which side of the war you wish to model.
Thanks to Andrzej for his excellent work.

Moving along,
Bob

Some nice reference photos Russ. Always like Tokyo Rose but always wondered what was eddited off the bow. Never did find out what it was supposed to say.
Hopefully anyone interested in the campaign will speak up if they need info for any specific item in the campaign. Seems like we should have everything covered.

Thanks again Russ,
Bob

In a lot of the photos I have the unit identification is scratched out for security reasons. Obviously the Japanese knew who they were fighting, but no one at home was supposed to know. It would save on decals if I just put a few white patches on a kit in the place of specific vehicle codes. If it was a personalized message it must have been really something considering what did pass the censors.

Hi Bob,

I will play. I would like to tackle "Almighty" from the Marine 3rd Tank Battalion. This vehicle appears on page 44 of Tank Battles of the Pacific War. The caption does not specify the location but, in my opinion, the unit information and background vegetation place it on Guam. It appears the same vehicle later fought on Iwo Jima.

I have a few suggestions:
1) I believe you can safely add the M32B2 to your list. The Army probably used M32s or M32B1s during the campaign, but I have not confirmed this.
2) I recommend spelling out exactly what islands were involved in the campaign. This will help prospective participants conduct research. For example, a search for "M4A2 Marianas" will not yield many pictures but a search for "M4A2 Tinian" will.
3) Some starter references may help participants get a foot in the door. For example, the site below seems to spell out the entire campaign in some detail, though I have only reviewed a small portion:

http://www.ibiblio.net/hyperwar/USA/USA-P-Marianas/index.html

Good luck getting your campaign off the ground.

Would love to be part of this campaign! Sign me up. Not sure about it, but were there any P-40s there? If so, I am nearly finished with a 1/32 Flying Tigers, Tex Hills plane. If not, I'll have to go back to the 1/48 Zero.
