A Good Alternative to Lead Foil

Seeing Maki's post I thought I'd pass this along.
Even though I do use lead foil, a very good substitute is
the "foil tops" on Maxwell House Coffee 13oz. cans.
They even have a raised diamond like grid that I heard of
some modelers using as floor plate on armor vehicles.
It is very easy to just flaten out with your finger also.
I used it to make my helmet & equipment straps, and gun slings on
my Waffen SS figure's diorama. Which I will post as soon as I get
some pic's to upload to the forum. ( I won a Bronze Medal for the dio last weekend
at AMPS ! ).
But the foil tops are very useful for doing a number of thing's in our hobby.

Another item I have used for certain types of belting, slings and horse reins is computer photo paper. It is especially useful for figures 54mm and up.

there is something else you can use very well and that is the foil wich is in the sigaret packages ( marlboro, camel etc etc )
The texture on that foil is very beautifull and comes in handy for al sorts of things...

Will the vacuum pack coffee foil work, too? All the coffee that I have came vacuum packed.

Another trick I use instead of lead foil is the metal foil from a tube ot Toothpaste! Slice it down the side, wash it out (gee, what a nice minty wiff your diorama has!), and then cut to desired shape. Great stuff!

Where do you find toothpase in metal tubes? I think they are packed mostly in plasic tubes nowadays... But it is a good idea. I'll have to make a flag with strawberry flavour... Just kidding..

Hi folks,
The best scrounged foils I've found are from fruit cups (tropical blend's my fav) and the indivdual surgical blade wraps ( careful! )

I've read a coupleof articles now that have suggested using the metal foil from yogurt or coffee to make the cover for softskin vehicles instead of Milliput.
Anyone have any experience with this method, pro or con?

The big cans of nuts from Walmart have foil tops. They are also great! The nuts arn't bad either.

i also have a big stock of Yogurt tops... My duaghter kept them for some contest and when we moved I got them all...

Lots of different things out there.

I picked up a roll of aluminum/silver at the local pearl paint for about $7.00. the roll is 32 gauge and is very maliable as well as takes sprayed paint well primed or un primed. The roll is 12" x 30". I generally prime a sction anthen cut and paint as needed, quite cost effective and no remembering to save lids.
