First I'd like to say this is an excellent site and you guys do some awesome work.
I'm kinda new to modeling so I hope this is a dumb question. Does anyone have any good ideas on how to make a ghillie suit for a sniper.

I'd try using gauze and and white glue, much like trying to make a camo net.First I'd like to say this is an excellent site and you guys do some awesome work.

I talked about Ghille suit with someone on this site, I think it was Panzerman... If I remember corectly he suggested gauze carefully applied to the figure using white glue (it would be great if you have some reference pics, so you can check how it is done on a real sniper). I would just add some tiny straps made out of tissue paper, dampened in white glue and positioned on the "gauze" netting...

Fatkid - Just a note, each graduate of the US Army Sniper School has to make his own "gillie suit" Use the photos from the site MATT recommended. Have you ever seen the movie "A Clear and Present Danger/" I believe they have several scenes where thay are testing an Army sniper and he has a gillie suit, if I recall correctly.
The suit is almost opaque when finished. Only those parts exposed out from under the suit are visible. SO you can use guaze or cheese cloth as a base and add strips of very thin material (paper, cloth, plant material, etc) dyed or painted different colors and layered over the gauze.
