Hi
I need a lot of the PSP plating that was used so much by Armoured troops etc.
I'm building a Pacific & a Vietnam Diorama soon & I need to use some PSP Plates on both diorama's. I know that Verlinden do this in etch but you get so few sheets for a lot of money.
So Does any 1 know an easy way to make some.

Shaun, you may want to look at aircraft bases. I believe one of the manufacturers was making a psp air strip section.
Don't know if that helps but it's a start.

Eduard makes it and I think Verlinden also.

Hi
Thanks for the replies.
I knew that Verlinden do some the problem is for the project I want to build I'd need about 10 sets a lot of £.
I'll check out the Eduard set to see how this compares.

Damn, if I only knew what PSP plating was. Heck, you can scratchbuild anything, but, with out a bit more info, I just can't tell you how to do it.

So, if you explain what PSP is, I may just be able to help you out.

Well, hell! That doesn't seem so tough! (Thank you Matt!) The wiki article tells you exactly how to make it. I quote...( Wiki source

Quoted Text

The typical Marsden matting was the M8 landing mat. A single piece weighed about 66 pounds and was 10 feet (3.0 m) long by 15 inches (380 mm) wide. The hole pattern for the sheet was 3 holes wide by 29 holes long resulting in 87 holes per mat.

Break out some aluminum flashing, cut to size, add holes. Or, maybe some .020 sheet/stripstock, again, cut to size with holes added. You probably don't have to go 29 holes long exactly, but, make the first one and use it as a template for many more.

Hope this helps,
Cuhail

the fingers of the sheet are the biggest B(&*^ to do when you need alot of it... UNLESS it's ont he ground then you could just scribe it and call it good. IIRC Italeri had some but the Verlinden stuff is way better.

it might be possible in resin but the fingers would be prone to breaking off.

a better pic....

I would go for photo-etch all the way. Make whole sections instead of individual pieces...

Look at this link for some close-up detail shots

Thinking about the other suggestions maybe scribing in Super-skulpey or something similar...

Hi
Thanks for the help
I might have a go with some tin foil & scratchbuild the stuff that will be in place & probably have to buy some for the plates being fitted due to the fingers ( as Matt calls them).

I have scratched some PSP using .020 sheet styren and half round styren for the ridges. I cant remember what size the half round stock was but its bigger than .030. Not sure how noticiable the fingers would be in 1/35 you might could get by with out them.
