Lol! I was watching an old re-run of Magnum PI today and Higgins was playing with a 1/48 SPAD biplane. I also remember when he built the Bridge over the River Kwai out of matchsticks. Higgins was a total ModelGeek!

If you look at the commercial the kit they show would be in 1:16 but the kit you can buy is only in 1:32

I was working part-tme in my local shop at the time that came out. Nearly every day someone came in asking about it and most would not listen to the fact that it was not produced by Airfix but rather false advertising by Santander. I remember our Airfix sales rep telling me that Airfix had no plans to do it nor had given permission to use their name or logo in the ad. I doubted this version as if that was the case surely Airfix would have taken legal action. Eventually they relented at the demand, but to get it out quick in time for christmas they actually cheated a little. It was the Scalextric Mclaren in kit form but without a motor and guideblades. It still had the rear 'hump' which went over the axles gear. Unfortunatley for Airfix and model stores in general it missed the Hamilton hype and sold about as well as whale steaks in a vegetarian restuarant.
