Hi Guys.
I'm a great fan of Tom Clancy's Novels (the Jack Ryan Series).I just love his attention to detail.
Anyway there hasn't been any news bout any new releases by him, and today I was speaking a bookstore manager who says hes' given up writing it was just to hard, which I hope isn't the case.
Does anyone know if this is true?
Chris

The "Ryan" series was concluded with IIRC"The Bear & The Dragon" I think he's still doing some writing but not as much as he had.
I miss the ryan series as well.

I miss Jack Ryan as well. When he became president I figured the series was about over.
Some writers can move past outgrowing a character, but it seems Mr. Clancy has not.

You don't have to write when you can live quite well off of the royalties from your previous work.

If you've noticed, his last several books were "co-authored", which to me means they are just about finshed with their writing careers. Anne McCaffrey did the same thing, as well as, many of the good authors I grew up reading. When you see two names on the cover, it's the death knell.

I'm not so sure about that. Bernard Cornwall, the author of the Sharpe series (and when the heck do we get a new one of those?!?), did a few co-authored books with some lady and he's still going strong. I seem to recall David Eddings doing the same for a while before continuing his solo career.

I too am wondering what has happened to Tom Clancy as i've managed to get all of his books over the years(including Netforce?powerplays and the Op-Centre series ) his writing style is brillant ,very informative but still manages to keep a flowing narrative if it is true that he's given up writing then he'll be sadly missed

I think he should've quit long ago. His last few are terrible. I mean compare brilliant early books like The Hunt for Red October or Without Remorse with nonsensical later stuff like Rainbow Six and you can see that Clancy was well past his sell-by date.

I agree. Rainbow Six wasn't very good but The Bear and the Dragon was a terrible book. Way to long and just to unbelievable to take serious. (I got so sick hearing about poor Jack Ryan and how much he hated being President.)
The man really needed an editor on that one. I was really disappointed.

I agree Jeff his last few books particularly Bear and the dragon and Teeth of the Tiger were not upto his usually high standards makes you wonder if he himself actually wrote those two books?
