Very interesting piece - except the article describes the model as a Lancaster when it's plainly a Halifax (Bomb aimers position not fully glazed, cockpit faired into fuselage, pointy vertical stabilisers...)

My grandfather guarded German POWs in WW2. My mother had a collection of beautiful toys they made for her and her twin sister from anything they could get hold of. I guess those men had literally a lot of time on their hands.When mum's pet rabbit died my grandad took the skin into the camp and one of the prisoners made a pair of mittens. This was one gift that was not appreciated!! Sadly most of the toys were lost in the scramble to get out of Nigeria at the start of the Biafran war.
