Hey,
I would like to try and put a fiber optic lighting system into one of my models but have no idea what I might need. anybody tried this and can help point me in the right direction for a kit or the parts and where to find them?
Thanks a bunch,
Kelly

PM me an addy and I'll pass some on. 6 inch lengths or so. I have quite a bit. I have a buddy who worked in an auto scrapyard. LOTS of fiber optic material.
Give model railroading sites a look-see about how to use them.

Hope it helps. I think it's really a case of practice makes perfect.

That's actually good to know. (For me) I'll send you the FO.
I was going to send you an LED, some wire AND the FO, but, it sounds like you have enough stuff and smarts that I'll only have to send you the FO.
Look for it in the mail.

sending me that is more than enough . I was going to use the breadboard in my seaview but wound up just using a switch and hardwiring it all. If I had thought of this fiber stuff if would have turned out allot more geeky the way I like it.
Thanks again.

Kelly,
I know the guy from Madman lighting.

he's part of the Granite State IPMS folks and a really good guy.
It's a small operation, but he's gotten soem great effects using his own stuff.
check him out.

Sci-fi modelers go for lighting quite a bit. There's a forum over on www.starshipmodeler.net dedicated to it. It can apply to armor etc as well. Check it out: http://www.starshipmodeler.net/talk/viewforum.php?f=58&sid=308f39e16cda07ac6f58a97a2bc45c24

Kelly I made a Star Wars star destroyer, and used fibre optic lighting. Remove the sleeving from one end then place each fibre optic strand through a suitable sized hole, apply superglue to set each fibre optic strand then cut back protruding strand flush to the surface. The lighting system was the easy part as I used the battery box from a Tamiya rug runner, placed a switch in one of the lengths of wire and secured to a hidden area of the model, then just used a low intensity light fitting and bulb. It really is that easy.
