Hi all,
I hope someone can help, this becoming a bloomin' headache!
I use Vallejo Model Air and Revell paints but I'm struggling to find a colour match in Revell for Dark Ghost Grey and Light Ghost Grey.
I know it's available in Model Air under 0047 and 0050, but I can't find a local stockist and my Tomcat is begging me to paint. Is there a match in the Revell range that I might already have? If so, what is the paint reference in the Revell acrylic range? It doesn't have to be absolutely 100%, I'd be happy with 90% accuracy so I can crack on while I wait for the online retailers to deliver the vallejo for my Chippy Ho! F18...
Thanks
Jon

Hey there Jon,
Here is the site I use, it compares just about every kind of paint to one another:
http://www.aoou52.dsl.pipex.com/paint.htm
From what I can see you are looking at:
Vallejo Air 0047 US Grey = FS36320, RAL7037 - T:XF22 GS:H307 R:57 MM:1741 MM:8423
Vallejo Air 0050 Light Grey = FS36375, RAL7040 - T:XF19 GS:H308 MM:1728 MM:8333
T=Tamiya
GS = Gunze (I think)
R=Revell (I think)
MM=Model Master, and since there are 2 numbers, I assume one is their enamel and one their acrylic.
I don't see a Revell equivalent for Vallejo Air 0050, but you should be able to find something else from that webpage.

Hi Jon,
Forgive any redundancy, but here's the only info I can come up with. I tried to cross-reference the differences between FS and other standards.
I would use Revell's 374, and then find one of their grays a bit darker, perhaps Mouse Grey.
Light Ghost Gray is FS 36375 as is Light compass gray. Revell's 374 RAL 7001 Silbergrau is also FS:36375, as are Humbrol 64/127 and Xtracolor X:X255.
Dark Ghost Gray, used on the KC-10 and KC-135, is also known as Dark compass gray, FS 36320
On F-15s, Ghost Gray is FS:36320/36375, a.k.a. Dark and Light compass grays.

Quoted Text
*The FS in not extensible, i.e. it does not allow to derive new colours form the existing ones. Thus, if you compare i.e. RLM colours to FS codes, you can only refer to the nearest existing FS colour, which most often isn't a perfect match. In practice, the FS set is extensive enough to find a good-enough match for almost any colour.
