G'day,

Lots of the communities have a customised name, such as Franc'orama, The Union Jack Club, The Springbok Club, heck...even the Kiwi's have their Korner!

So, how about we rename our forum? I think 'Community Forum: Australia' is a bit...boring.

If we could come up with some appropriate suggestions, I'll submit the most popular to Jim S.

p.s: no Poms allowed to suggest 'Convict Club'.....or else.

Whoops. While using my brother's computer, I forgot that he had a Kitmaker account and posted under his login. I was the one who started this topic, not Samuel. My brother enjoys browsing the site, and he participates in the DMoM or FoTM voting from time to time.

Anyway, how about:

-The Bushman's Blow

-or we could go for a more traditional 'Diwurruwurru' Aboriginal word for 'Message Stick'. Although not many Aussies even know that.

-we could incorporate our famous word 'Dinkum' into the title somehow?

We don't want to be too stereotypical, but we want a name everyone can recognise.

Chas,

No suggestions yet; just wanted to let you know I have seen the post and am giving it some thought - although being the newb Aussie I'm probably not going to have any decent suggestions. All I've come up with thus far is "The Six-Bob-a-Day Club" - with reference to the "Six-Bob-a-Day Tourists" is you missed that one Not sure if that's seen as derogatory by Aussies?

Having recently read a bit (a very little bit) about Aussie history, I found it interesting that despite Oz having the "convict" reputation, something like 8 times as many convicts were sent to the Americas - I suppose thats why they call it Congress

How about the Bush Telegraph or Tobruk Truth nameds after the Newsletter the Rats produced during the siege?

Hmm... not many responses but I understand the situation in QLD means those modellers have more pressing issues on their minds.

G'day Rudi! I have heard that one! I think that applies mostly to the immigrants of 1950's and 60's, so most of that folk are quite old by now (past modelling age anyway!). I could be wrong though...

Al, I like 'Bush Telegraph'.

I have just come back from a very long bush-bash today. While hiking a possible name came to my head: 'The Walkabout Club'.

I knew that Dave, honestly! My brain was well and truly scrambled last night.

No quip against 'aging' modellers. I was just making the point that 30 year old immigrants of the 1960's would be close to 80 by now. Do we have many/any 80 year old modellers on the site?

Lets get some more feedback guys!

Chas,

Apparently the phrase was still used right up to 'Nam, so yeah, some Digger's may have taken offense - as I said, I'm not sure how the comment was taken round here.

The Bush thingie is cool. Go for that.

Ok thanks Rudi. I guess that makes it 5 votes for "Bush Telegraph".

I'll leave the door open a few more days before contacting staff_jim.

Chas,

Sorry I didn't reply sooner. (I wasn't in an online posting frame of mind)

The "Bush Telegraph" sounds fine, "Ned Kelly's Gang" would have been better, but let's go with your option Of course I've also heard that in these new economic times the only thing Australia is good at producing is beer and prostitutes so it would've been cool to work that into the name, but given the family nature of this show I'm guessing we should leave that one alone JUST KIDDING GUYS!!!!!

Out of curiosity (and on an ever so slightly more serious note), how stereotypically Australian is the Bush Telegraph? Are they still used out in the Outback and remote places like... I dunno... Perth?

Rudi

p.s. as you can see my online posting frame of mind has improved 180 degrees

Surprisingly Bush Telegraph is more of "Concept" than any reality these days. It is colloquial for a rumour, word of mouth exchange etc.

Mate, that title is far too 'stale'! Makes me cringe!

I'm fortunate to have been to every state/territory in Australia except Tasmania and during my travels, I've seen 'Bush Telegraph' many times. Particularly in the interior, where small towns usually have a community billboard with often humorous names but I do remember seeing 'Bush Telegraph' on more than one occasion. From the ABC's rural radio show, magazines, billboards and slang, I think the 'saying' is still used and recognised by Australians.

This is a busy time on the network. Having spent all winter scavenging the dead quiet forums, the flood of posts/topics from Europe and the US in our summertime overwhelms me! I find myself posting more and more, I'm also constantly inundated with emails and PM's to do with the site.

Strewth! I can't help being in the online posting frame of mind!

Well, how about that! This forum is now officially "The Bush Telegraph".

Thankyou to Al Bowie for suggesting the name.

I hope your dad recovers after his surgery, and I'm praying that you guys won't be on the butt end of any more storms.

Glad you like the new name.
