Well need some advice on the drive sprocket for the Lee.

As most know I am doing the old Lee {Tamiya} okay I bought a set of T-51 Tracks and well as trying to mount to the already glued dive sprockets which are not mounted yet they are to small to let the track fit.
Okay do you think that cutting them apart and adding say 1MM or so of plastic would .
1] Be to wide and look to far out from the mounting point?
2] Cutting the axle back so it sits where it should be.
I have tried to go thru my 15 or so kits but none have the style that was used on the Lee Bummer.
Well thanks for any insight and I do not want to cut the darn thing off of the Tamiya hull.
