First let me say that I greatly admire the british military and those that support british military tradition.I sometimes feel you think we are crude and unworthy colonials..not so I think that our society here in America owes our success to British influence. It deeply pains me that you think we are all ignorant rednecks, we share many common values.Sadly I think both our nations are in decline due to a lack of morals and the tendency towards Chamberlain like appeasement or even worse a sense of apathy God give us the wisdom to promote freedom for everyone and to stand up to evil dictators.

i dont have any problem with the majority of americans, when i meet one, they are usually v friendly and intereseted in what iv got to say, (usually history,) pretty much exactly how i would be, To me gwb was a bad choice, and i hope the current election turns out in favour to whoever really can put there effort in and sort americas problems out, im not saying its just america with problems here, im saying that we all need good leaders, am i right?
cus here, we are just getting worse, the current statistics for grevious body harm was claimed to have risen only 5 persent over the last 5 years, only to have been covered up a massive 22 percent.!!
this applies to no-one on this forum, but i cant stand the silly fights people have on forums and youtube over britian and america, waste fo energy, countrys ahve their high points and there low points, big deal haha!!

"God give us wisdom to promotefreedom for everyone" i think if everyone pulled their heads out of their arses and sniffed the fresh air, and contributed to their own wisdom, the problem would be sorted, finished, whatever. im nto a religious man,m but if god was there, im sure he would have sorted a lot of things out by now.

As for another point, you americans claimed to have saved our asses back in ww2, and its true, thanks yanks!

Unfortunatley, a lot of Brits base their ideas on Americans on those tourists that come over here and are generally loud and uncouth, however having been to the States, and had conversations on here i feel that we are very similar, and i found that most of the people in the States were very friendly and personable. It's a shame that the minority spoil it for the majority, but that happens everywhere.

I think a lot has to do with ways.
We sometimes do not understand the British ways as they do not understand ours.
Language is one ,even though both English big difference in some words and meanings that would make a British Gentleman upset in a flash if spoken.
But we take for granted.

At least leaders that are not corrupt.Being near 50 years old I am tired of the other party claiming to be virtuous then they are elected and its the same shyte different stink. Here in the USA and elsewhere it is the elite serving the elite and we pay the price, we must not lose focus in holding rogue nations in check...dictators with nuke weapons need to be supressed and God willing someday all nations will be rid of nuke arms .My intentions as I served my country for fourteen years were honorable and certainly on my part greed or other sins where not my reason for enlisting, we all have various reasons for serving in the middle east, afganistan and beyond..some honorable and some not.I admire the british for holding their own as we sat out the start of the war due to those that suscribed toisolationism and appeasement... I am so impressed with those that served in the Battle of Britain I do hope we continue to be close allies.

I agree with all the comments made so far,I worked in the tourist industry in London for a couple of years and met a lot of Americans and found them to be very nice people,I had a facinating conversation with a chap about H.M.S. Belfast he seemed to know a lot about the subject, turned out he was a designer for the IOWA class battleships nice guy.Re my own country I have packed up and left I live in France now because I cant stand the way that britain is beining run I watched a programme on the BBC called question time the day after 9/11 the U.S. ambassador was on there and he was verbally abused by some hard line radicals,I was sickened to my stomach I actually wrote complaing about it.sorry to say over the following years it hasnt got any better these type of people seem to be catered to all the time.Lets hope we can get some real leaders in the future instead of career politicans.

WHEEEEW !!!,A short question but a long answer. First letīs see it this way: Letīs look at what we lost as enemies, then letīs letīs look at what we gained as allies, the sum we reach if based on historical fact are really worth noting. The opinions of non BRIT/U.S. subjects generally not based on the previous sum are usually subject to very questionable motives. We all know that there are stereotypes all over the world & never fairly represent the poulation of their respective countries, so having lived in Spain for almost 12 years now I occasionally get the British stereotype thrown at me & to cut the argument dead I just ask how many Brits they know personally, how many times they have visited my country & what would be the value of my opinion over theirs because of the time Iīve spent here. As for Mr Chamberlain, when he held up that piece of paper, he knew it wasnīt worth an ass-wipe but it bought us some time at least. I do hope though that nobody on the other side of the Big Pond is judging us by Nev because it would be just as unfair to judge all our American friends by Joe the Grandaddy of all the Kennedys .

As an american who takes keen interest in history I certainly do not generalize when it comes to the character of any man...it is a form of prejudice, Churchhill more than made up for those who favored the failed policys of isolationism and appeasement...how does this lesson apply to todays world?

Politically I dont support any party.what annoys me being a great supporter of our armed forces is the way they are treated by the british goverment and to some extent the british public,i dont know if you get the brit news in the states but one incident that sticks in my craw is the return of the dead canadian soldiers, the police lined the route saluting the traffic was cleared crowds lined the roadside showing respect, in britain on the same day the british dead returned they were stuck in traffic jams people cut in to the cortege because it slowed them down when the police were asked why they didnt give the cortege an escort they said it wasnt their job.Sorry but I cant handle that, im an older bloke now and I was braught up just after the war when people knew and showed respect. This isnt the only incident im sure others will tell us of more.As for supporting the war? i support our troops and the american troops, the reasons for the war im not that clever.

This thread is very interesting, but it now seems to be going off at a tangent. I think the rules for this forum cites NO political rants so Iīll start another thread: HISTORICAL HYPOCRITES........ERR no I wonīt because if we exclude politicians past & present it doesnīt leave any scope, on both sides of the big pond or anywhere else in the world for that matter.
