I have spent most of the day trying to convince my boxful of electronic gadgetry that it should organise some multi coloured electrons into a picture for the Rivet Review but to no avail.

I followed the instructions to the letter - several times.

I searched the forums and got lots of info on left and right clicking but I am a Mac user so all that PC stuff is irrelevent.

I have pics at group.msn.com/BritishTanksand AFVs which I can access directly via my browser but it does not work from Armorama.

This seems to be a not uncommon problem judging from the many postings that I have found on the subject, many of which are solved by private mail, which may help the individual but does nowt for the community.

Please could someone explain in lay terms how a Mac user can post pics?

PLEASE!

Thanks Dave

Dave,
Can you give me the exact MSN URL of the gallery you are trying to retrieve the pictures from? That will help. I tried combinations of the URL you listed but no luck.

It should look something like this:

http://groups.msn.com/armorama

Cheers,
Jim

Dave,
Found it, I think. Hit edit on your post above and I think you will see the code you seek. The URL for images on MSN is VERY VERY long. You have to click and scroll down on the properties window in order to grab it all.

Thanks Jim.

I have to say I am even more confused. I was using what I assume is the bbcode which works from my browser to access my pics -

//groups.msn.com/BritishTanksandAFVs/models.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=1985

As I thought there might be a cookie for me I used a derivative of the same script to get other contributors pics from the same site so I thought I was on to something!

I must be a bit thick 'cos I cant see the relationship between the script you are using and the instructions you give in forum help.

I will struggle on and see what happens. Reference to properties does not help me 'cos Macs dont right click like Windows.

I always said this new fangled electricity stuff would not catch on.

Regards and thanks again.

Dave

Dave,
Ahh...I see now where you are making your crucial error. Don't worry though many people do this.

This URL:

http://groups.msn.com/BritishTanksandAFVs/models.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=1985

...is the URL of the PAGE, not the IMAGE. If you were to use BBCode and put the URL in the tags (as I did above) you would have an effective link to the page that the image is being pulled on. But keep in mind that the page has all sorts of HTML and thus there is no way to pull just an image by using a page URL. Sorry to beat that so hard but for the sake of others I just want to be as clear as possible. So... what you need is the URL/address of the image. To get that you will need to look at the code that is calling the image. This sounds hard but there is an easy way to do this. Right click on the image with your mouse then click "properties". A properties window should appear. This gives you gobs of info about the image. Look for the line marked "URL Address". The location at right is what you want. Here is the trick though (as hinted at above), you will need to LEFT click at the "http://" and then hold the mouse button down and scroll down. This will show you that magically there is more URL than appears on screen. Scroll to what seems to be the end. Hit CTRL + C (Control and the C key). Next go to the forum and paste (CTRL + V) the image location into your post. You can add the BBCode for an image or use plain html (which would look like this)

Code:

<img src=http://groups.msn.com/_Secure/0TgCvBOMXl7oONwl0eM!kIqxNTc2K4coLAKn4XDfIKJPIMRmZEcH!VRY5h1MkphfG6UlOFZpQxbHFg5drX0pIEeAwmSjQl0HhMLTOwTyHmcHcy*LqaEzepw/Cent_05.jpg?dc=4675423000218528771>

If you want to limit the size of an image you can add a width command, like this:

<img width=300 src=http://groups.msn.com/_Secure/0TgCvBOMXl7oONwl0eM!kIqxNTc2K4coLAKn4XDfIKJPIMRmZEcH!VRY5h1MkphfG6UlOFZpQxbHFg5drX0pIEeAwmSjQl0HhMLTOwTyHmcHcy*LqaEzepw/Cent_05.jpg?dc=4675423000218528771>

I hope this helps you and others with this sometimes perplexing procedure. Don't worry though, we are moving to a much easier picture posting system in the near-future. Something all new to learn.

Cheers,
Jim

Thanks Jim, but as I said it aint no good talking 'right click' to a Mac user, our mice have only one button. I accessed the full msn page HTML using my 'Source' function and extracted an IMG string but it dont work!

Not knowing what the HTML language is I took a punt on simply changing the file description on your string but that did not work either.

I think I will just wait till you get your new system up and running, this activity has swallowed up a whole lot of modelling time!

It was really the pics of the construction phase that I wanted to post, - now I might have to submit my Chieftain instead.

Regards Dave
