Greetings all,

This dio has been a dream in my head for a long time, so on Sep.
2nd I decided to make it a reality; finished it at 4am this morning!
(finishing touches kicked my butt)



I used the highly modified Airfix 1/300 747-400 as the subject and Flyteline Models new MyDIO kit#1 to mount it. The landscape was accomplished using styrofoam and the water using Testors Clear Cement & Windshield Maker. All the other details were scratchbuilt, so no aftermarket parts were harmed. Enjoy!

For the dio scene, I made 21 figures out of scalpeled sheet styrene with tiny drops of the Testors Clear Cement for proportion (all fit on the face of a quarter), the fence post and umbrella poles are cut sections of Christmas Tree ornament hangers, the fence is from a fine mesh make-up bag my daughter didn't want anymore, the trash can by the umbrellas is from the guts of a watch, the umbrellas are from typing paper, the walls are sanded sprus, and the guard rail is the sanded-down upper half of the window openings on the 144 Airfix 727 cutaway. Oh, and the runway is a sheet of fine grain sandpaper.

On the model, I scratchbuilt new engine intakes, new Flap Guides, extrended Slotted Flaps, Slats, and Landing Gear; plus lengthened the wings and built new Winglets.

I don't think anyone else is interested in Civil Aviation subjects or new mounting techniques here; maybe the next time I'll get smart and ask some off the wall question about the color of a Running Wheel Hub on a Tiger II.

Hi Frank. I dont think airliners have ever been interesting to me, but I must say, this stands out. Very ingenius, using the mirror to capture the sky. Makes for amazing photos on the right day. Might lose some of its effect inside in a show or competition though. The aircraft looks good .. quite real actually. Nice one.

Frank, I only just spotted this one, and I'm glad I did. The first picture completely fooled me, and I think that the low level pictures are the best, the effect is superb. An excellent display indeed. And the best thing is, that you can do another one...

I just found this thread too and love it.
The display technique is great. The diorama scope is really nice. It's great that you extended it to include the beach.

very resourceful with the found objects manipulated into your model.
I thought it was a picture of the real thing, that you wanted to build.
