So does anyone know of model shops around the country that take Laser? I have looked online myself but I keep coming up empty.

Hi Vertigo,
the only one(s) I really know is Marks Models which has a branch beside Tara St and one in Dun Laoighre and both take laser. They also have a web-side, but I've not used this: http://www.marksmodels.com/ Actually, just browsing it now: it's not very good. If you get the chance to come up to Dublin it's worth a visit in the flesh.

There's also a place on Caple St. Never been to it and from the website it seems to cater mostly for the RC crowd: http://www.longwoodaero.com/id4.htm with a small mention of "we also stock" for plastic kits

Cheers,
Sean

Thanks for that. Marks Models have some decent 1/35 scale Revell kits and even better they stock 4 Aztec Airbrush kits. That will be on my purchase list in the future. A pretty nice find I think.

We do have a LHS in Limerick City but I get the feeling they're sliding towards Games Workshop products more as well as other war-gaming, such as Rapid Fire. The money making area's.

The best model shop for armour Allmodels on Blessington Street doesn't take laser AFAIK. Marks models also have or had a branch in cork. The model shop on Capel st is good for tools, adhesives and plastic card but only caters to the R/C plane crowd and some RR stuff as well as some collectibles. I was always put off using Netmerchants because of their postage but with the strength of the Euro against sterling it's not so bad.

Allmodels is worth a trip to Dublin though

Hi lads,

There's also a Mark's Models on Oliver Plunkett St. in Cork, but I'm not sure if they accept Laser,

All the best,

Mike.

I'm sure he must. The two in Dublin do, and it's the same company...
It's hard to believe anywhere does not accept lazer these days.

I was up in Allmodels on Friday. It is a little shop, but it has a great amount of kits in there. I would recommend it to anyone.

Hiya! I know this is seriously late but here goes.... I'm supposing the original question re. Irish model stores taking laser is because you aren't / won't use a credit card online??? There are options - I'm based in the west so there is very little store choice here, so I've no choice but to buy online. Well, if so, I'd personally recommend 3v - you can just go into a shop, 'buy' a virtual VISA (up to a max of about 350 euros I think) and it works 100% online anywhere Visa is accepted (and with the strength of euro at the minute that's slightly better if you're buying from the UK). You can get full info on www.3v.ie -* hope that helps out!! (PS I have nothing to do with 3v, but I have no hesitation recommending them)

My daughter uses those 3V all the time for flights, ebay and online stores without problem. Beats letting her use my CC!

I recently came accross a very good site for purchases: www.luckymodel.com; Just picked up the 2 Tamiya Humvees for €39 including post! From my regular UK based site they would have been about €67. It helps that Lucky price in dollars, even though it's in Hong Kong, and it's so weak at the moment against the Euro. Order took 11 days to arrive.

Cheers,
Sean

Just paid my first visit to Marks Models in Greenogue Business Park. It's just off tne N7 at Rathcoole and well worth the few mins detour if you're traveling that road. Lots of kits of all types and the largest selection of paints, tools and styrene I've seen in any bricks & mortar shop. If you're familiar with the Hawkins St or Dunlaoighre branches then this is about 10 times bigger...

Marks Models on Oliver Plunkett Street is alive and well- with some fantastic models on display... I'm sure they do laser but if not there's an ATM around the corner...

'The Gathering' in Limerick is great for models too... while they specialise in Warhammer/fantasy stuff, they have a great selection of aircraft/armour models... If anyone is looking for modern 1/48 USAF/USN groundcrew, they're the boys!

I will rephrase my last entry:

Marks Models in [the Peolple's Republic of] Cork

'The Gathering' in Limerick

There's also a shop on Abbey Street, Ennis, Co, Clare that sells mostly bikes and fishing gear but have a choice selection of Airfix & Revell kits.

My two cents,

Eoin

I was actually in it about 2 weeks ago (can't remember the name either) but an interesting shop. Strange to see the models mixed in with hunting, fishing and hardware stuff. A reasonable selection if you like Airfix & Revell but very little was priced!

You're right, Sean, strange auld shop in Ennis and prices are often on the back of boxes for some odd reason. You're probably better off not looking at the prices though! You could be lucky and find an unusual model there but the models are a few euros more expensive there than in Marks Models! I suppose they've got a monopoly going on in Clare!

Hi folks,

If anyone is in or near to Limerick, I was in 'The Gathering' during the week. They got a shedload of models in for the Xmas. I picked up an Academy 1/48 F14 and an Academy 1/35 Warrior... if only I had more cash!
