Hi everyone, Looking for a US 1:35 M1A3. My Umpa(Grandpa) when he was in Germany in the 80' was a Turret Mechanic. So I wanted to build one for him. Any offer would be great. No one International.Thank You in advance!! Sorry dont have a big budget!!

I am not familiar with an M1A3, we don't even have them yet, the M1A2SEP is the latest.

I served in the Army in Germany in the 80s. The US tanks in service during those years were the M60A3TTS (until 1989), M1, M1IP, M1A1 and M1A1 Heavy. There may have been M60A1 RISE/Passive in the early 80s as well.

Ask him what his MOS was. If he was a 45E, he would have been an M1 turret mechanic and worked on the Abrams series. If he was a 45N (I think they were Novembers), he would have worked on the M60 series tanks.

Ok he told me he worked on the M60A1 and he was in the 45N. He asked for me to ask you a couple Questions. Where were you stationed at. He was stationed at Erlangen. Also Where you a Mechanic or a DAT!!! !!!

DAT and proud, although i did serve as a BMO for my battalion as a young captain and eventually ran a maintenance school where we transitioned the old 63E (Abrams hull mech) and 45E (Abrams turret mech) into the combined 63A.

I was in Mannheim, 5-77 Armor, 8th Inf Div. (formerly 3-68 Armor).

The best M60A1 kit to build would be the ex-Esci Italeri M60A1 (not the italeri M60 Blazer, but if you find the original Esci/AMT/Ertl Blazer, it is OK to get it).

eBay is normally the cheapest place unless you get lucky and find someone on a forum who is selling one.
