Awhile back I got an e-mail (dang'd if I didn't delete it!) comparing the personal habits of FDR, Hitler and Churchill.

It went something like: Take a look at these three people and see who you think it is... Guy 1 drinks 10 martinis a day, smoke a bunch, stays up late, etc. Guy 2 smokes 15 cigars a day, drinks a bottle of brandy a day etc.
Guy 3 is a vegetarian, doesn't drink, and goes to bed proptly at 8 every night. etc.

as history buffs you probably already know that FDR was guy 1, Churchill was guy 2 and Hitler was guy 3.

I was wanting to know if:

A) if anyone thought that the e-mail was very historically accurate

B) what parts were not

C) if someone could send it to me to use in class

Thanks, Hellbent

If I recall there is also something about both Churchill and FDR being womanizers, where as Hitler was not. Churchill smoked cigars and FDR cigarettes. Churchill was know to a heavy drinker.

There is a story about Churchill being at a party totally smashed. A woman was upset with this and said, “Sir, you are drunk.” His reply, “Yes, I am. And you miss are ugly. But in the morning I shall be sober.”

I do not have that email, but if you dig for it you should find it.

Churchill wasn't a particularly heavy drinker, and Hitler was an all-night ranter. What joy it must have been to be cooped up in bunker with him.

Hitler was reported to be a night owl. History has him sleeping late on D-day with aides unwilling to wake him. There are also questions about the contents of the injections given him by his personal physician.

Quack medicines were big business in the 30s and Churchill was a fan of various forms. IIRC FDR apparently sent some pills that Churchill gave him for analysis (trusting soul!) and the results were that the pills were harmless but the analysts couldn't see what good they did either.

There are several variants on this story. They all run more or less among the same line with tiny differences and the women opposing Churchill and the location in which it is said differ. Als the exact quoting differs a lot

There is the story with Elizabeth Margareth Braddock (this same story is also pointed to Lady Astor and I know of s a similar variant with a women named Agnes)
[Braddock:] Mr Churchill, you are drunk.
[Churchill:] And you madam, are ugly. But I shall be sober tomorrow. You'll still be ugly

This is also a variant on the above story... same line more words

Quoted Text

“'You are drunk Sir Winston, you are disgustingly drunk. 'Yes, Mrs. Braddock, I am drunk. But you, Mrs. Braddock are ugly, and disgustingly fat. But, tomorrow morning, I, Winston Churchill will be sober.”

And this quote is pointed at lady Astor and is coupled with a different quote from Churchill

Quoted Text

[lady Astor]Sir, you are drunk!

[churchill] Madam, you are ugly...and I'll be sober in the morning.

[Lady Astor]Sir, if you were my husband, I would poison your drink.

[Churchill] Madam, if you were my wife, I would drink it.

More on Churchill's supposed alcoholism and also a possible witness to the Bessie Braddock incident.

The history channel ran a special recently that stated the injections Hitler recived from his personal "pysician" consisted primarily of methamphetamine. At the beginning of the war Hitler was fastidious about his appearance, did go to bed early and was primarily asexual. He had a mistress because everyone else did too. As the methamphetamine addiction became worse his appearance, sleeping habits and paranoia became much worse. But he was still supposedly asexual. Meth makes you crazy and extremely anal and detail oriented. If you start that way and then begin to use meth, well, you get the picture.

There was another History (or Hysteria) Channel show on Hitler that said that his medicine was methamphetamine with an odd assortment of additions including Bulgarian farmer feces. He was reported not to be asexual, but was probably a sexual deviant. There was one of his female relatives (cousin or niece) that had an affair with him in the 1920's and commited suicide. Which was hushed up by some of his staff.

There is an advantage to being seemed to be a drunkard like Churchill as you can hear many things that can be used to help your politcal career from those words flowing at the mouth at his opponents own drunkedness.

FDR is supposed to have had a lively libido, not confined by the wheelchair. Elanor seemed not to mind as it is reported that she had a "friend" and travelling companion who stayed at the Whitehouse.
