I want to buy a playstation for my daughter, but I can't figure out which one to get. Here in Egypt, the PS3 costs 3 times as much as the PS2. My question is... is it 3 times better? Is the difference really worth that much? Is there a good collection of PS2 compatible games to keep her busy for a couple of years worth of playing?

Thanks in advance for any help

In the States, they are $399 for the 40 GB and $499 (I think) for the 60 GB version. The graphics are amazing, high definition quality. The consol also doubles as Blu Ray video player.

Hisham, I suggest you go for the PS2. There are lots of games for the Ps2 & still more coming out. The PS3 is still VERY expensive & to really fully appreciate it one needs a HUGE TV screen. I donīt think that there are as many games for the 3 either.

Thanks for your opinion, Mike.. I've pretty much come to the same conclusion. I don't have a big screen TV. I also doubt if the new Blueray(If that's the right name) DVD's will be available soon here in Egypt, or if they will be affordable... so that aspect of it will be useless to me.

Thanks again

Rob, Do you have a PS3? Trying to justify it to the wife. Told her last week at Wal Mart,
"Look, the Sony Blu Ray disc player is $400. For an extra couple hundred we can get the PS3."
She did not bite.
Have two killer HD LCD tvs. Really wan to see what a Blu Ray disc looks like.

hi guys
i bought a ps3 over a year ago now and i still don't think that people realise that it is not just a games machine.
you can-
1. browse the internet.
2. watch blu-ray dvd's(high def films)
3. store video, music & pictures on the hard drive.
4. and play call of duty 4 on line. the best stress buster known to man
imo the ps3 has got longevitey it will be around for the next 10 years and is always updating it's software through the free downloads.
(no i dont work for sony)
all the best and go for the ps3......
neil.
