In continuation of my previous post about replacing my humbrol enamels, what would be the best acrylic paint for brush painting in those times when the airbrush is inappropriate, such as fine cockpit detail etc.

I have already discovered that Tamiya is very bad at this.

you are going to hear Vallejo over and over...they are very good quality and brush on beautifully. If you decide to give them a shot (and I recommend you do) you will need to primer your plastic first.

What the other guys said. Go here then click on Model color. there's an excellent tutiorial oat the bottom of the page and links to the color list as well. One of the nice things about this is the manufacturer recommends distilled water for thinning, none of the "you have to buy our proprietary thinner to get eh paint to work" crap.

Yes, as Al said, you can use pretty much anything to thin it with. For brush painting, I actually thin it with windshield washer fluid, the regular summer, blue kind washer fluid. I find there is a wetting agent in it, which seems to make the paint go on a little smoother.

One thing that doesn't work well, at least for brush painting Vallejo is regular alcohol, or Tamiya Thinner, neither seem to work well with Vallejo....but when you can use washer fluid and distilled water....why bother with anything else.

Now for airbrushing, I will admit I do use Vallejo's thinner, I have tried other things and concoctions, but I do get the best results with their own thinner!

I noticed from their website that there are two model ranges, model color and model air - is the one you are all talking about model color? I assume that model air is only formulated for airbrushing

Thats interesting, I will give that a go. When i had subsequent layers stripping off, I primarily used the tamiya thinners at 50:50 proportions.
