I love local hobby shows... I really do... Great bunch of guys comming together to escape for a weekend..... Some,.. (myself included) dragging thier better half with them only to witness the blank stare of "Why are we here again" ? Jezz women.., let me buy you a snap together car so you can go amuse yourself in the lobby...
Well, Thats what I felt like doing this weekend at "Squadrinfest Dallas."
It was Big Boys putting on a little show..... hundreds of awsome models on display,..,but, no chance to see them... judging was slow, and face it, everybody paid to see the best models in N. Texas.. but not from behind a rope for 2 hrs....
Venders were O.K? But for a market like Dallas, I expexted a hell of a lot more...
No airbrush reps? I didnt see a single airbrush the entire show.
But the people were GREAT, good vibe amounst modelers and the conversations were cool..
I give it 2 out of 5 stars..
But hey, I still left with an armful of stuff,
and a helluva lighter wallet....!

I have to agree. Show opens at 9am people drift in for a couple of hours putting things into the competition, then they run you out at noon, stand around and "decide" what and how for 45 minutes and why then add another 2 hoursto judge. I figured the vendor stuation would be bad this year. Gas is too expensive for a lot of the out of town dealers. lugging a trailer full of stuff. Plus most of them have stopped offering good deals and they all show up with the same stuff.
I had to work so I missed show for the first time in 14 years. I did hit the Squadron shop on Friday, but as I really am not in a market to pay full retail opted just to pick up a bunch of paint this year. I was hoping they would run a special on that brand new 350 scale Richelieu, but alas no.

I couldn't agree more guys. I thought the vendors were o.k. many of them selling some new products and I recognized some of them from their names on ebay. The problem is that even though somewhat centrally located the Grapevine Convention center ....sucks! Its too damn small for such a large event. Everyone bumping elbows and stepping on each others feet. The IPMS event in Arlington at Vandergriff Convention center is not much better and it doesn't have the backing of Squadron. Another venue must be chosen...in my humble opinion.

A friend and I drove 6hrs., got there in time Friday to go to Sqaudron, and picked up a few things. And of course we had to have a WHATTA BURGER! Saturday hit the show, we entered a few pieces and then hit the vendor tables and got several good deals. Made some new friends, I guess I'm trying to say we had a good time, and my buddy Kevin Grigg took 2nd place in 1/32nd scale aircraft with his F-4 Phantom!
