There is a great shop called A B Charles in Dormont area of Pittsburgh. It is quite large and has lots of inventory.
Pittsburgh is quite inexpensive for the US in general, but that has mostly to do with buying a house and income tax and real estate tax, which have nothing to do with what you will be doing. However, if you are renting an apartment, that will be cheaper than other cities like LA, or New York, or Boston.
Pittsburgh has lots of good museums and other cultural interests due to the Mellons and Carnegie, Heinz, Frick. The natural history museum is a must see. Fort Pitt museum is nice for a little museum. Go to a baseball game. The experience will be memorable.
