Hi all
Saw this picture last week and thought I'd give it a go as I had a few Churchill kits I'd bought off E-Bay last year.

My rendition

Worked off the one picture. The top Churchill is one I built awhile ago with the mine plough removed and a piece of track placed where the holes to fit plough are located.
Banks are made of polystyrene covered with tissue and covered with PVA glue watered down, left to dry then hand painted.
Will look out some figures to fit on and around later.
Will have to adjust the off ramps as wires connecting them are too lose.
Hope you like it

This looks to be well thought out, the banks have the makings of a good diorama the addition of one of the water simulating products would help. The vehicles need some more weathering to help tie the whole build together.

Thanks for the comments guys
I'm slowly getting into weathering etc but being unemployed at the moment pennies are tight so utilise what materials I have at the moment. Will see what I can do !

Jim - this is a problem as I have certain kits in my stash I look at and go
that would look good as this on a diorama / that would look good as this etc etc.
In the end I've got to take one kit at a time otherwise brain over-load
(doesn't help working on 3 or 4 projects at a time)

Great unique idea and build! I've never seen this done before.
Is the "...polystyrene covered with tissue..." also known as styrofoam?

HI Ko

I think it's the same
Its the stuff that's used to protect things like fridges - TVs etc you find in packing boxes.
It's the stuff that (if the kids get a hold of) you end up with a load of snow to clean up afterwards

Its the stuff I used for my B1 bis +FT17 dio

and bases for my ships.

Outstanding!

The Red Army did this, too. I wonder who thought of it first?

yup, this is the stuff....

I like this material; lightweight, cheap if not free and available everywhere.

Hi Steve,

The double-decked ARKS were put in place in Northern Italy by 51st Royal Tank Regiment, while attached to the regiment in which I served, the North Irish Horse. Her name was 'A; Squadron's 'Armagh" - I cannot recalll in which Troop. Should you be interested in adding the insignia she wore fore and aft let me know.

Cheers, Gerry

Hi Steve,

Thank you for the pm you sent me - for some reason I cannot find how to get back to it so I am responding by way of a post.

51st RTR was transferred to 25th Armoured Engineer Brigade when it was formed in December 1944.
While the two ARKs belonged to 51st RTR the Na75 crossing was 'Armagh' of 'A' Squadron, North Irish Horse, consequently
the triangle should be coloured red. The photograph of her does not show it being obscured my netting, however, without her name on the louvres, as often happened she was probally a replacement being deployed before there was time to add her name, turret markings, etcetera. As mentioned in my posting, having served in 'B' Squadron, I cannot recall her Troop. It was the practice of the NIH to carry names forward as tanks were replaced for whatever reason, The last tank I crewed 'Ballyrashane' a Mark V was the sixth Churchill to carry the name.

See: http://northirishhorse.net/articles-2/Units/51stRTR-AEB.html

Follow the link at the foot to the main Insignia article.

The drawing of 'Ballyrashane's insignia should be of assistance to you.

Compliments on your great work. With best wishes to you and yours.

Gerry

The dio had quite a lot of interest and a few comments (good ones)
With your info it will now have a story behind the picture.
