Does any one know how to make links. What I mean is the links that link the bullets together for a 30cal., 50cal., and a Mini gun (same as 30cal.?) Iam going to need a lot of them for a diorama iam going to be doing sometime down the road. Any one know how ot make them or what to use?

thanks,
Mike

What you mean is the belt of ammo, right? Let me see. Make the belt by a very small masking tape. Try grains of rice or whatever smaller than that. Just got that idea. Might be helpful (I think)

I did that before cutting pins in proper lengths as bullets and masking tape as the link or belt. For 1:35 scale, cut a long stripe of 1mm wide masking tape, string the bullets on it and fold it.the bullets will be sticked between two layers, press lightly the tape between bullets, that will give a realistic look..I know I couldnt describe it well, but English is not my native language. :-)

The links might be very hard to make. You might have better luck looking for some photo-etch parts.

There was an article in FSM's may 2003 issue on a detailed P-47 Thunderbolt that the modeler used thin brass wire(.030) for the .50 cal rounds them glued them to a piece of thin lead foil on the bottom. Then took a piece of thinner aluminum foil and used it for the top of the link. looks pretty good in the pic of the mag and you may be able to see it on the magazines web site.
Hope this helps or triggers an idea for you.

What era are you looking for? What specific use, I think there are different ones for different purposes.
Are you going to try to reproduce the individual links scattered on the ground after use? My first thought would be some type of foil product to do that. Just bits of foil with a bend in it?

The area that iam doing is Vietnam, a convoy of guntrucks being ambushed. I would need links for a 30cal., 50cal., and a Mini gun.

The lead foil sounds like it could work or something similiar. But how should I bend them, size, etc.?

thanks,
Mike
