Tamiya have (finally) cottoned onto the fact that we modellers like to photograph our models in studio-like conditions.

Tamiya Portable Photo Studio

It's marked as forthcoming, but some vendors have it advertised at about £100 at the moment - seems a tad expensive (in true Tamiya form).

Wal-Mart has a nice portable studio for $50.00. It includes two lights and a changeable background. Plus it is very light weight. It is nice the Taymia set up has the light above. The Wal-Mart studio works great outside and isn’t too bad inside. You might need to add another light, but other than that is it a decent value for its price. BUT! This is my opinion.

Yes, 100 pounds is completely out of line. In addition the WalMart one above, I've seen another on-line at $80 US with two tripod lights and a mini tripod for the camera.
And I just found this one on E-bay for a Buy it now price of $35, including 4 back drops, 2 lights, and a camera stand.

What is Tamiya thinking?

Gents,

I also purchased one of the e-Bay variants a while back.

Just thought it interesting to see how Mr T analyses and interprets the market, and then manage to totally price themselves out of it.

Ahh...the good old japanese marketing strategy. Just because the tamiya logo is on it they think it´ll automatically sell.

I have the ebay version although its under a different name. Its really handy to set up and comes w/ two background colors. The lights though are only 20W and not bright enough I can't seem to make the light work perhaps I just need more? I haven't tried it outside but I will soon. I think I paid about 40 dollars for from Sportmans Guide.

Ouch at that price tag! It's nice (and professional looking) but with that amount of money one can be made very easily. I have the unit from Wal-Mart and the only thing it needs is brighter lighting and have the room very bright as well. And it was on sale too.

But that's just my opinion.

Well this helps me out , I was thinking of getting one . Now I'll just go over to Walmart and pic one up from there . 100 bucks for something so simple isn't worth it . Thanks guys !
