Dumb question but what is it about.Filtering. I seen a few models with dots of artist oils and there saying there paint filtering.But I don't understand it an can anyone help.

Filtering- is similar to washing, except that washes are intended to increase contrast to the creases and recesses on the model surface with the rest of the model(usually a darker color is used ). Filters- are used on the entire model to actually change the surface color or parts of the surface color of the entire model. Some people use dabs of paint to achieve this later effect, they will wash over the dabs with a thinner and blend in the different colors with the base color. This adds more interest then a simple filter and can be quite effective.
Wash or pinwash are generally done over a gloss finish, so the paint rests in the creases and recesses.
Filters are generally done on a flat paint finish so the paint stays on the larger areas.
