Ola Henrik

First of all great you are coming to Amsterdam. I think it is a really nice city.

Well modelling wise you have not much options in Amsterdam. You have the Schaaltreinenhuis http://www.schaaltreinenhuis.nl/index.php Big shop specialised mostly in trains and doll houses they have a selection of plastic models but from my memory (already a while back since I visited there) it are the brands you pretty much find everywhere. It is not exactly in the centre of Amsterdam but you should get there easily by taking some trams.

Museum wise you have the well known Anne Frank house.

And the resistance museum which is also very nice
http://www.verzetsmuseum.org/
Not much with armor and such... so not a big chance to make walkarounds or see impressive machines
And of course if you and the wife are art lovers then Amsterdam have a huge load of Museums like the Rijksmuseum, the van Gogh museum, the Rembrandthouse etc.
You might want to check out this link which shows you pretty much all the big important museums of the city
http://www.amsterdammuseums.nl/

There are more museums in the rest of Holland and it depends a bit how much time you have. Overloon as was mentioned before is nice and has a big collection of armor. But from Amsterdam quite a drive. The Bunkers of Kornwerderzand on the noord Holland side of the Afsluitdijk, Fort Kijkduin in Den Helder. Both quite a long drive from Amsterdam ... List goes on pretty much but for most you really need a car to go there. Even though Holland is not that big... Not everything can be reached with bus or train. But believe me you will not be bored a moment when visiting Amsterdam. Another thing I could recommend you is visiting the Heinkene Museum. very fun and interactive. Also try to visit some of the museums which are about the history of what was once one of the most important cities in the world during the golden ages. And after that you drink a beer or two on the terraces of the gazzillion little pubs and cafes that Amsterdam is rich. And tell the missus to bring a good stuffed wallet.,... Plenty of shopping opportunities.

Hope you can do something with this information.

With friendly greetz

Robert Blokker (not so far from Amsterdam.)
