Welcome to the hobby of scale model building! When I first started out here's the tools I found most useful:

1. X-acto knife w/extra blades
2. Good pair of tweezers
3. Quailty brushes, not those plastic bristled things with the white handles
4. Toothpicks
5. Sprue cutters
6. Testor's liquid cement (in the bottle with the brush on the cap)
7. CA glue
8. Needle files
9. Some kind of small spatula for spreading putty
10. Putty (I like Squadron white and green)
11. Sanding sticks (the best place to find these is in the ladie's nail section at the store)
12. Small clamps (clothespins, alligator clips, there are many kinds)

This will get you started even though I'm sure I'm leaving out some things.
