Has anyone tried 'normal' masking tape to hold fuselage halves together after glueing? I ask this before ordering Tamiya tape.............

Thanks in advance.

Regular masking tape has really sticky adhesive, and runs the risk of leaving residue behind. Try 3M's blue painters tape instead, or good old fashion paper drafting tape, also by 3M. Don't know of the European equivalents of 3M products. There is also the the old fashion rubber band and pipe cleaners twisted tight to hold fuselages together.

I agree with Dave, regular strength masking tape is strong a may leave residue behind. Painters tape is the best to use.

What you can do to make the tape not so sticky is to stick it onto a section of your body like forearms or stomach. See you'll pick up oils from your body and make the tape less sticky. The more you do it the less adhesive it becomes. Yes some will say your leaving oils behind on the model...but like most you do wipe down before you paint so it won't effect it.

Besides using tape you can also use rubber bands to aid in closing up the fuselage. works the same or even better.

Happy Modeling,
Joe

You know, there is a blue painters tape out that is 'low tack'. I like it. It's somewhere between tamiya and regular blue tape with re: to 'tackiness'.
