Hi all,
My Great-Grandad was a WW2 Singapore veteran and one of his stories passed down was that, before the invading Japanese got hold of his car, he pushed it straight off the wharf into the harbour.
I saw a picture once of some soldiers pushing a car into the harbour, but I can't remeber where I saw it. Does anyone know an internet site or a book with that photo published in it?
Thanks.
Chas

I know the picture and am (fairly) confident that it's in one of the three books on Singapore I've read in the last couple of years.
Most likely (but by no means certain) is Colin Smith's 'Singapore burning', if not that one then Brian Farrell's 'Defence and fall of Singapore'. I'll have to think for a while before I remember the title of the third book though
Hope this helps
David

Hi David,
Yes my memory is jogged I remember seeing the picture in a book while on a flight stop-over at Singapore airport. I can't remeber the book title but I will try the titles you have mentioned.
Thanks

The picture is in 'Singapore burning', it's also in the third book which I found out was Peter Thompson's 'The battle for Singapore'.

Thanks for the replies guys and the help to locate the book in question.
I have contacted Colin Smith who wrote Singapore Burning and he confirmed the picture is in his book. Looking forward to seeing the photo as my Great Grandad may be identifiable?? Who knows.

You might need a magnifying glass
The pic is reproduced at a very small size.
