I'm going to be woking on some new display space in my model/ guest room soon and thought I'd ask what you use for model display? and how about storage of your older, finished models?
I think I'm going to get some nice looking brackets and probably some 2" X 8" or 2" X 6" lumber and make some shelves. I currently use a crummy old bookcase which is too low to the floor for viewing and just isn't big enough. It's also a constant worry that the dog will knock something off, or my son will when he gets old enough to be mobile.
I currently have older models stored in small cardboard boxes, which are then stored in a large plastic bin with a lid. Not really ideal, but it's working OK so far.

I use a couple of ikea floor display units, plus one other "curio" floor display cabinet, and a really nice plexiglass wall unit that has mirror. All do a good job of keeping the dust, cats and dogs out And are relatively cheap )

yes, Ikea cheap bookcases with the glass doors are the way to go, keeps the dust out!
Also, you are in NC right? Get a dehumidifier for your hobby room for sure... Im up north, but the basement gets humid in the summer, don't want all the humidity landing on my models

Do you guys remember the name of your bookcases/ display units? I didn't see anything with glass doors when I glanced at Ikea earlier. I may have missed it , their website seems a little hard to navigate.

I like this case unit a lot! Very classy and the mirror backboard is very useful for model display.

Thank you KoSprueOne
Mother in law was going to give it to the salvo's (salvation army)
I could'nt resist it with the mirror backing
$100 and a bargain many years ago
These are found in second hand shops and can pick them up at a good price

Frank ,
Thats a great and inspiring collection of models you got there.
Nothing like good deep display cabinets to put heaps of models in
Very nice

As mentioned before, its the BILLY bookcases, you then "pair up" with the glass doors, but the backbone is the BILLY bookcase. This here is the small version:

This is the one I have, $140 USD I remember they were $100 handful of years ago:

The cabinet Jesper posted is the one I really wanted to get into my hobby room when I was designing it, but logistically it didn't work in my space. The cabinet would look great built-in to the wall.
Whatever you do for storage, make sure the case has glass doors to keep dust out. Also if you go with puck lights (Ikea carries these too) make sure they don't give off too much heat. Most don't seem to, but still keep them a good distance from your models. A mirrored back and glass shelves help make the most of the lighting.

Good lighting and a mirror back is very useful. Notice the lack of both in my display case.
