So the photos from my digital camera come out HUGE! and I have to resize them for posting here.
Problem is, I'm having trouble finding a free editer that will let me resize. They only let me crop so far. I've tried photoshop elements trial, roadrunner, hp photosmart essentials so far with no luck.
ANyone know of a free photo editor I can download that will resize pics?

If you are using a PC as opposed to a Mac check to see if you have a program called Paint Open your pics there and use Image- Stretch/skew to resize your photos.

A lot of the software that should come with your camera allows resizing, often to "email' sizes.

Don't forget GIMP, in case you need to do more comprehensive editing than just resizing.

Did your camera come with any editing software? I use the software that came with my laptop (HP) for doing the basics, for the more complicated stuff I have photoshop.

it did come with some, but I never could find a Real resizer. It has an email resizer but you can't save the photo from there.

I believe many of the online photo host like Photo Bucket have provisions to resize your pictures. Many websites require you to use such sites to link photographs from to their sites.

^Indeed, but the you'd have to be really careful taking your photos. At least I nearly always crop my photos, it's quite uncommon that just resizing will do the trick.

I was making the same mistakes until I found out how to do the re-sizing with the Windows Paint . I´ve also got the Gimp for windows free with a photography magazine which is nice & simple to use & I just love the smudge tool. I´ve also got edit programmes with my printer & the camera neither of which are ever used.

Try " XNView ".
http://pagesperso-orange.fr/pierre.g/xnview/enhome.html

It's free and it will; single or batch convert (size, type, name, etc, etc...), do just about anything w/ a graphic image.

Very powerful, very easy to use.

Thanks for the additional tips. I tried a couple of the programs mentioned and either couldn't find them or it seems 1 or 2 don't work in Vista.
I ended up using Microsoft Digital Image Starter Edition 2006 Editor, which was on my computer already....who knew! My wife and I had both spent hours going through everything we could find on this computer with no luck. Oh well, at least I'm in business now. The Editor has the ability to crop and resize while keeping the aspect ratio constant, which is the main things I needed, and has some other nice tools too.

I forgot to mention that Faststone also does batch conversions, can save you lots of time.
Hers's a synopsis of its features

Convert and Rename images in batch mode
Support JPEG, BMP, GIF, PNG, TIFF and JPEG2000
Resize, crop, change color depth, apply color effects, add text, watermark and border effects
Rename images with sequential number
Support folder/non-folder structure
Load and save settings
And much more...

Another good freeware program that is upgraded regularly and offers many of the same unique tools available in Photoshop and Paint Shop pro is Paint.NET. You'll need to have the NET.framework 2.0 or higher for it. Get it here: http://www.getpaint.net/
