Hello,

It's been sometime since I've last visited this website, or rather took interest in even finishing my models that I have put off for the past 2 years due to being busy as of late.

Anyways, I've been wanting an airbrush to finish up my models and I've been eyeing that Iwata HP-C plus. For any modelers out there using this airbrush or similar, is this model appropriate in doing detail work? I've been searching the forums before I posted this, apparently people using this airbrush only use it for general purpose spraying. Is the .3mm needle/nozzle configuration too big in doing detail work? By detail work, I mean like spraying camo patterns on 1:35 scale model tanks or artillery pieces. I've also read that Tamiya airbrushes are cheaper and just as good.

I've also been looking at dixie art, and apparently their prices are good? I'm sorry but I haven't had the time to properly research prices.

Oh and another point, I'm thinking about purchasing an automotive air compressor with a 4 gallon tank from Costco, I believe its a Campbell Hausfeld; is this anygood? I've read people are using this as an alternative to those expensive model compressors. Moreover, where can I purchase a moisture trap attachment for this compressor, or does it come with it? Sorry I'm still in the process of trying to understand a compressor.

Can anyone recommend me a good airbrush that rivals this airbrush or try pursauding me into another airbrush?
Thanks a bunch.

I have been using a Iwata TR-2 for the last couple of months and it has completely changed my view on airbrushes, you can do detail work with it (they also do the TR-1 with a finer nozzle).

Take a look at the review most of the Iwata's should and will last you a life time as long as you buy an original and not a cheap copy. could cost you a little more to begin with but it should out last you.

I have an Iwata Revolution CR (.5mm nozzle) and a Tamiya HG (.3mm nozzle) and they are the finest airbrushes I've ever owned. The HG will do lines finer than 1mm wide. The company that makes Iwatas also make Tamiyas. Their quality and precision, handling and ease of cleaning are unmatched. I'm sure they will last longer than I do. Get an Iwata or Tamiya!
The compressor will work great for you if you have the room for it. If it does not come with a regulator/moisture trap combination, stop at Home Depot and pick one up. They have standard fittings.
I use Dick Blick and Dixie Art, and yes, with their prices with built in shipping, Dixie Art has the best prices on Iwatas.
