I painted a 1:35 scale .50 cal Browning for a Sherman tank, painted overall as base with Humbrol 53, then washed lightly, and as finish drybrushed with the more blank Tamiya X-10, is that quite good for a machinegun in such scale? looked good according to real combatpics

If it looks good, it looks good.

I seem to do mine differently everytime.

I don't think there's any right or wrong. But comparing it to actual photos is certainly the way to go.

I just paint it flat black, and then dry brush a little aluminum on it. But for my planes I just paint them Gunmetal.

But if it looks good, and you think it does leave it! Thats what I do.

My technique is basically what Chip does.
I first paint mine flat black. Then I dry brush either steel or aluminum over the entire thing - not to much just a bit. If I go to nuts I'll go back over with black or with a pencil to tone it down and give it a metal sheen.

I agree with sniper - if it looks good, it looks good.

I use basic the same technique. Either Flat black or Tamiya gunmetal with a drybrushing of silver or otherwise I rub pencil sharpenings on it. Always looks fairly realistic.

My bottom line is as long as you are happy with the end result.

I'm with the rest... A base of flat black, but then a 2nd coat of dark grey (almost black) to simulate the parkerizing, then a drybrushing of gunmetal on the high spots, and a second verrrrry light drybrush of silver on the extreme wear areas, IE, ammo cover, cocking handle, etc...

I guess I'm weird, I've always painted them gun metal and them washed in a black solution. We kept ours real clean when I was on active duty
