What would be "ideal" base sizes?
1"x 1" x ?? hight for single figures (1/35) or do they need to be larger?

You get a firm 'that depends on the figures pose'.
A straight standing figure 1"d x 1/8" or 3/16" circle is fine or 1"x1" square.
Maybe 1/8" thick. I prefer a beveled edge, so those are top measures.
Pose them in a dramatic fashion and it has to get bigger and taller, or add uniforms, gear, equipment etc.
an army of bases
WH goes at about 1/8" tall x 1".
A spool of standard full roll thread is 1.5" and for an equiped figure that would be better.
Height I'd go start at 1/8th then as you add size add height. You could also experiment with compenent type bases, stack'ems so to speak.

Yeah,
a 1" square would work for a standing 1/35 fig. they'd need to be bigger for kneeling..........

I think a square inch is two small. For a standing 1/35 figure I think an inch and a quarter circle would be good with a bevelled edge.
