It looks like the rear part of a Lockheed Twister (some XM-nn
number or other)

Yes that is a twister, and the modeller is Shane MacKay. Shane is well known locally for scratch building esoteric subjects, and he is most fond of engineering and support vehicles. Shane is often asked when he is going to build something with a turret and/or a gun by another local!

I believe Shane had planned to have the twister finished for the show, but he got excited about other projects and set it aside.

Shane, if you're reading this (and I'm sure you will at some point), you should satisfy the masses and finish that twister!
