What would be a good sanding option in tight spaces? I was thinking dremel but am afraid of collateral damage from the rotery bits and was wondering if there is a skinny detail sander out there that I havent found yet

Excellent for tight spaces, and in several different grits. I think you would like them.
Good luck!
