I won't enter competitions..... As I don't agree with some of the rules and, favortism that tend to accompny certain clubs.....I know it's not the case with all..... but I've seen it happen to several Members here.

Seen it happen at contests, before they enter anything some modelers like to scope out the competition, if they think they are not gonna win anything they wont enter. To some modelers its all about winning and how many trophys they can aquire and not about the spirit of the contest

it's a sorry state of affairs , but there will always be 'gong hunts' that will attract unsavory elements in the fraternity . common in all walks of life really , i prefer to treat such things as shows / exhibitions of our common intrests in modelling . each of us has our own leanings in our hobbies and outlooks . tactical voting is happily frowned upon by all honest organisers . how many of us could judge or even nominate a judge that has the ability to know all subjects and standards ? ten identical kit builds will vary acording to the whims of the individuals ! age and expierience are factors that need to be taken into consideration , along with percieved ability . - the reason i like shows is because i see the whole spectrum of what people can do . such events shuld first and foremost encourage those that think they are closet freaks that like to make things , and to inspire and captivate us with our choice of pastime which ultimatlely benifits the hobby overall . ignore the backbiters , the are only protecting their own egos . i am an inveterate mickey taker myself , god forbid that it could be overheard and taken as a critic by inoccent bystanders . . . . i feel the need to make something (badly!) - tally ho !

Let me see if I understood this...it was a non-competitive show/display? Maybe the non-entrants thiought it was for club members only. Maybe when they got there, there wasn't much to see on the tables and they came, they saw, they left. Did you charge general admissoin? If so, at the risk of sounding venal, no one gets in or sees the display until they've paid an entry fee. Did you have anything else to entice them to staf, a raffle, vendors, demonstrations, a movie on a big screen?

Sounds like you did everyrhing right.

That's really strange behavior, In all the years I've been attending contests (back to 1980 or so) I've never seen that. Again, people pay their registration fee before they walk into the contest room, so, in a sense, it doesn't matter to the club if they put their stuff on the table or not, they've already paid and there's no sense in NOT spending the day.

It alos sounds llike your first event was well received since people came to the second event.

My only other question: were winning models from your previous contest allowed to be enterred again. Over here, if a model wins at a contest, it can't be entered in that club's contest again, though it can make a tour of the several contests in the area.
