Hey is there anyone out here in the US Miltary stationed in the Stuttgart area? I have been posted here since last summer and would like to get a modeling group together to discuss and work together. I am mostly interested in Armor projects.

Andrew,
Pete Gay AKA Saber 7 is heading back there from K-Town sometime this month. He has some good connections with the retired crowd there in Germany who build armor. I will let him know that you are looking to get in contact with him...

Hey Andrew, how are you? I am currently in K-town and took a new position in Stuttgart. 2nd time there this trip over here in Uropa! I am not setup at the momment (packing) then will have to find a new modelling hole and home. Then unpack Blah blah blah... If your in the military you know the drill. There are a few modelers around but you are the first I have ever run into the Stuttgart area. I know one guy in Mannheim and another friend up by Wurzburg. If you did not already know it, Patch Brks has a fine Armor history once being the home of 7th Panzer and 17th Hussars. Go to the club on the hill next to the Schwabian Inn and check out the gold iron work over the windows next to the main entrance. I will talk to you soon.

I spent three years there in 61 - 64 as a young child. I lived in Pattonville for 2 years then Robinson Barracks for the last. Built my first model kit ever there.....an Aurora 48 scale m46 Patton tank. Probably some of the best times of my life, sledding in the winter, eating green apples and going to the movies all summer. Having rumbles with the local Geman kids and the never-ending search for "Nazi" war relics. Oh and Halloween with hundreds and hundreds of living quarters to go too and everyone participated back then and your mommy and daddy didn't have to escort you.

Hi Steve,
That is interesting. As for Pattonville, it was handed over to the Germans in the late 90's I think. We still use Robinson for housing although its only about half the size it used to be. A lot of people have liuved over here while in service. I remember in the late 80's in Germany there were Ami's al over the place. Not so anymore.

I most certainly know the drill, last been here in Stuttgart for about a year. Last three moves were around Africa. I was really concerned about moving all my completed kits. The moving company had a great idea; they gave me a bunch of CD boxes (little smaller than a shoe box) and packing material. Each tank had its own box, and they all came through almost in one piece.
Hope to hear from you soon, once you are settled.

Wow John, I was at Panzer Kaserne in 77-80 with the 16th. Iron Rangers! Always Ready! You are right, most of the models I got there were from local hobby shops in Boeblingen and Stuttgart. Were the armor models still displayed at the O-Club when you were there?

Saber 7,
Who else is here in Mannheim? Most of the guys I work with are into RC and not the static plastic. I just wish there was a local hobby shop that had armor stuff, even though the Euro sucks right now.

Panzer has probably changed a lot since your time here. We now have a huge PX complex and a realtively new bowling center. Some things have not changed, the PX still does not have much in the way of kits or paints, although the situation is a bit better than when I arrived.
There is a great toy shop downtown which has an entire floor dedicated to models, nice to go look but the exchange rate is down righ frightening, so I do all my resupply via the internet or do a massive stock up when I am home on leave in Buffalo.
I am working out at Kelley in the old 7th Corps HQ area which is now US African Command HQ.
