Hi all, I'm very new to modeling but enjoying getting stuck into building and painting. My interest started with cars, although I now have an interest in military vehicles. I would like to know more about weathering. Perhaps there is some good books and DVDs that people can suggest and recommend. The ideal book for me would be painting military vehicles such as jeeps and tanks, but also dioramas, and how to get that realistic battle damage and worn look. I've heard about washing, dry brushing and filters as the main techniques but would like to know more.

Welcome to armor modeling, Paul! Two good starter books that I really like are "Modeling Tanks and Military Vehicles, by Sheperd Paine (out of print, but you can get it fairly cheaply on Amazon or eBay) and "How to Build Dioramas," also by Sheperd Paine (may also be OOP, but also fairly easy to find for a good price). FineScale Modeler also prints several books that cover painting and weathering techniques--check their web site (and then check Amazon and eBay to see if you can get them for less!).
Others may have more good ideas.
Hope this helps!

Modeling Military Vehicles by Shep Paine is OOP. Modeling Dioramas etc is still available and generally considered the definitive printed source for military modelling - the "Modeller's Bible" if you will. In addition to dioramas covers the key chapters of his figure modelling and vehicle modeling books - if you have all three books you'll have a bit of overlap.
In addition to the FSM books mentioned above, Osprey Publishing's new modelling titles are excellent. The ket to remember with these books is that although the key focus is one type of vehicle the techniques can be applied elsewhere - this is something that is regularly forgotten.
Kalmbach Publishing also have an excellent range of modelling resources. IMO the only problem with them is that there's usually a long waiting period for their books when ordering from online book resellers.
