I'm building a custom display case into a closet. Back of the case will be 4 feet wide by about 6 feet tall. As the shelves will be attached to the wall, (then enclosed with glass doors) I'm trying to determine a background colour. White may be too stark, as I plan to use fluorescent lighting.
I'm leaning toward blue, which I've seen used in many photos of models and seems to set them off well. Suggestions?

Actually, I'd stick with the white. Any other colours will impact what colours your eye sees on the model. If you can, throw in an incandescent light or two with the fluorescents and that will warm up the colours a lot.

If you can't change the lighting and still want something other than white, then don't use blue. Fluorescent light is a bit on the blue side to begin with so more blue will shift the colors even more. Perhaps a light cream or pale yellow to add the missing warmth to the reflected light?

I agree totally with Paul's suggestion...an off-white will help with the "starkness" of the flouro's....

I'd go with an 'eggshell' color in an interior flat finish

Right on Scott...DOH! Flat finish...should have added that to my post....it'll further reduce the "starkness."
