Just saw a DVD release of the movie 300, first time ever seeing it. From what I saw looked good. Has anyone seen it and what did you think, wondering if it's worth buying.

I saw the movie in the theater. It was an entertaining movie. Historians could poke holes in it all day long. The extras might be interesting.
I wouldn't spend a ton of money on it (personally). I'd say, if you're into a DVD collection then it's worth adding. If you're going to buy it to see it because you missed it in the theaters, I'd wait till it hits HBO.

I thought it was a really good movie. It isn't a documentary and was never meant to be. 300 is very entertaining with lots of action and great visual effects.I would recommend it.

It is a good movie. Like stated before it is not a docementary and does not totally follow the history, but it is a good movie.

My wife who does not normally like this type of movie liked it also. So, check it out.

If you want to buy a good DVD get the original 300 SPartans. It is brighter so easier on old eyes and just a wee bit closer to History. not everyone has 6 pack abs and jumps in the air to stab someone. But, that having been said, I did enjoy the newer one as well, just don't plan to add it to the collection.

Thanks Steve, I have as yet to see it. Looking at the movie trailers on T.V. and thinking it was a good movie. Like Scott said...wait for it to be on HBO.

One thing to remember, 300 is based on a Frank Miller graphic novel. It was never meant to be historically accurate. It was meant to be an over the top action movie, which it succeeds at very well.

I've seen it. Not enjoyed it, It was a long fight. That's almost 3/4 off the movie. No, my son bought it (lucky me) but i think i never gonna see it again.
Beside this it is not historically correct. Very dark movie.
No, i would spent my money on another one.

Watched this last night. More a fantasy movie than a drama. It could have been titled 300: Sparta vs Mordor. It was interesting to look at, neat cinematography, but the characters were not at all engaging. Well, the oracle was engaging. I had just finished reading Stephen Pressfield's Gates of Fire, a retelling of this tale in a much more realistic manner. Glad I didn't pay full theater price.

Even though it isn't historically accurate, I think they should show it to schoolkids to get them excited about ancient history, and show them that ancient dudes were badasses too! ...maybe cut the oracle scene before the kids see it

Uh, you might as well show them the Lord of the Rings to show how tough folks in Middle Earth were. Or Reno:911 for a view of police work.

What I'm saying is that a kid might see this film and be inspired to go and read up on the actual battle of Thermopylae, and the politics and world events surrounding it......or you know, they'll just eat pizza and watch TV.
