IMO = In My Opinion
IMHO = In My Honest Opinion
IIRC = If I Recall Correctly
SWMBO = She Who Must Be Obeyed

These are those that I see the most on the forums.

HTH : hope this helps

I know what you felt, being non native English speaking, I had some fun time figuring out all those funny abbreviations.
A great thanks to Grumpyoldman for his input.

And my favorite hobby abbreviation: OOB (out of the box)

as in "I built this kit OOB, except for the Fruil tracks and photoetch sets #3, #4."

Dave, how could you possibly sleep peacefully NOW with all these new "half-words" you're learning? I think it took me six months to finally do that after being "hammered" by all this online "part-talk." Don't get me going on texting!!!!!

Should keep this thread going....think of all the 2 to 6+ letter acronymns that are regularly used here....and those of us "oldtimers" that don't/didn't have a clue WTH (What The Heck) they meant and now will. SheeeeeeiiiiiiT.....I actually PM'd (Private Message'd) a member here to find out what IIRC meant! Yup, felt silly...but like you, drove me nuts trying to figure it out.

Anyhow, hope to see more "model" related ac'yees.

Mike

One other....took me a bit to figure out L8R...... Doh! Later.

We can't leave out modern military abbreviations, and if "foxhound" means the same in the USA as it does in the Canadian army, an infantryman will already know them:
ODS:Operation Desert Storm
OEF:Op Enduring Freedom
OIF: Op Iraqi Freedom

Cheers!

... and let's not forget the very shortlived Operation Iraqi Liberation.

How about KFOR? I know it was used in the Bosnia campaign (well, at least I think it was), but WTH does it stand for?

Cary, KFOR was NATO's Kosovo Force... not to be confused with IFOR (Intervention Force), SFOR (Stabilization Force) or UNPROFOR (UN's PROtection FORce).
That's another can of worms, though -UN and NATO acronyms...

Mike,

IFOR was Implementation Force, not "Intervention"
