I work at an airport and over the past couple of weeks I've been here when they've brought home the bodies of five soldiers from Iraq. I wrote this.

They brought a hero home today
I heard no taps play
No twenty one gun salute
Or flags dipped low to

A flag drapped casket came off the plane
A local boy,no I didn't know his name
The state made sure all respect was shown
An honor guard was sent to take him home

People stopped as his procession drove by
I saw some salute and saw some cry
My thoughts turned to his family
As those vehicles passed by me

Soon he'll be laid to rest
One of Oklahomas best
A soldier came home today
He came home to stay

I really like it... IT is a sad thing when something like that happens.

When I was in Nam I watched them send kids home by the plane load in body bags. I've never gotten used to seeing that ;hope I never do. But it does my heart good to see people pull off to the side of the road as they pass by with the body.. Some of them will get out of their vehicles and either put their hands over their hearts or salute as the procession passes. And I've even seen quite a few cry.The state provides a police escort and the military provides a military escort.I'm very proud of the way our state shows respect to these young men and women that gave their lives. And I'm very proud of the men and women from here serving in the military.

There was a little piece written by an unknown GI on Omaha Beach, which went. And the Soldier said to St Peter. One more soldier reporting in Sir, I've already served my time in Hell.
