Hi there. I've been to a couple of model shows lately and it's very interesting to hear the many different ways of pronouncing some of the names of the model companies.
for example, Tamiya - is it tam-EE-yah, tam-EYE-ah or TAM-ee-yah? Italeri - is it Ih-TELL-er-ee, Ih-TALL-er-ee or Ih-tull-AIR-ee? See where I'm going with this.....
Let's have some fun....
Azimut - AH-zee-mutt, AH-zih-mutt, ah-ZEE-mutt?
Revell - reh-VELL, REH-vul?
Eduard - ED-ward or ed-WARD
and just for laughs.... for decals is it DEH-culls or DEE-cals??
Anybody have any others?
.....I'm just askin'......

How about Artesania Latina
Art-es-ania La-tina
Ar-tes-ania Latin-a
Arte-sania Lat-ina
I don’t think it maters much as long as your audience gets it
And the companies won’t care as long as you buy.

Tamiya is indeed pronounced with an "e" sound (and not an "i" sound) but ironically your question seemed to also ask which sylable to stress. And I have it on good authority that pronounced in Japanese there is no particular stress point (or emphasis). So it would be simply "tam - e - yah".
Hope that helps at your next model show.
Cheers,
Jim

Thanks Jim. I've since found out that I've mispronounced Italeri all my life and it's just today I've learned the correct way (see my post above). It's amazing what you find out when you phone Italy.... lol

Round these parts they are pronounced as follows:
- Tamiya = 'tah-mee-hah'
- Italeri = 'Ee-tah-lee-ree'
How we pronounce tomato depends one which TV shows we mostly watch... if it's mostly Yank shows, we say tomato... if mostly English shows, we say tomato...

Tamiya - is it tam-EE-yah, tam-EYE-ah or TAM-ee-yah?
So which one is it? my Dad pronounces it like tam-EE-yah, but I do it like tam-EYE-ah.
Or is there a right way?

I'd always said DEE-Sals. Like Diesels without the z (zed not zee!) I won't tell you how I pronounced Penelope.
