Aircraft in 1:35?

Hey, folks! Since I've gotten back into modelling, I've had a really cool idea for the future, and when my skills are a little better.

A large portion of my hometown's history is rooted in WWII, primarily the airport. So what I've got in mind is to find some pics of the airport (if I can) and do a diorama of it on either a 3x5 sheet of hardibacker or a 4x8 sheet of plywood. The whole idea is to donate it to either the Heritage Society, the Chamber of Commerce, or most likely, the museum. I know there were AA guns there and around town, so I'll have to track them down, and I know that there were Hawker Hurricanes stationed at our airport then. This poses a problem one way or the other: either I find figures and AA in a scale compatible with the aircraft (Oh, yeah, right, my clumsy fingers doing figures in 1:72?) or, hopefully, the meat of my question:

Does anybody make aircraft models in 1:35?

Thousands of thanks, peoples!

Lewis,

Your dio idea sound really cool. Unfortunately, 1:35 scale aircraft are very few and far between. The only fixed wing aircraft in true 1:35 is Bronco's Piper Cub (WWII Spotter plane). The rest that I know of are helo's from Academy and DML.

That being said, you could get away with a 1:32 plane as the dimensions are usually close enough. I'm not sure if there are any dio accessories or AA in the 1:48 range, and if there are, they'll probably be resin and on the expensive side.

There are very few 1/35 aircraft. If you space things well enough, larger in back smaller in front then you can 'get away' with mixed scales. You can also look at breaking it up into multiple smaller dioramas (in different scales) that would be 'positioned'/displayed as a whole series. This may also be more readily accepted by the museum. If they don't have a space for a 4x8 sheet it may be tough for them to display it. There are more display options for smaller cohesive dioramas.

Since you have space constraints, try 1/72. I know aircraft and armor are made in that scale, but I don't know about AA.
